not about being good

Quaker Meeting House, Cork City

BOOK NOW

Buddhist ethics are not about conforming to a set of conventions, nor are they about ‘being good’ in order to gain rewards.

Instead, living ethically springs from the awareness that other people are no different from yourself, and we can actively develop this awareness through cultivating love, clarity and contentment.

In this six-week Buddhism course we’ll be exploring all this and how to live ethically in this world.

On the course we will cover:

  • Introduction to Buddhist ethics and why practicing them is good for ones self.
  • Buddhist ethics as a practice for the benefit of others.
  • The Buddha’s ten ethical precepts.
  • Motivation and commitment in Buddhist practice
  • Buddhist approaches to guilt, remorse, forgiveness and connection with the Buddha.
  • The Buddha and going beyond ethics.

We’ll also be drawing on Subhadramati’s book Not about Being Good, a copy of which will be included with the course.

Is this course for me?

The Not About Being Good course is open to everyone, including complete newcomers, and is suitable for those starting out on the Buddhist path or those with more experience. This course is for anyone who is interested in learning more about Buddhism and how to live well in today’s world.

The classes take place at the Cork Buddhist Centre, in a friendly environment. They are led by Buddhist teachers who will guide you through each week's topic, answer your questions, and help you to reflect on how the teachings are relevant in your life. There will also be opportunities to connect with others, through discussion and a tea break.

Course dates: 6 Weeks, Friday 20th March- Friday 24th April, 7.00 - 9.30pm

Location: Quaker Meeting House, Summerhill South, Cork City, T12 XW8R
